Today our core programme introduced year 10 & 11 students to the structure and function of the human body. The day included live dissections of the brain, meninges, eye, trachea, larynx, lungs, heart, stomach, intestines and gall bladder.
60 Students removed the eye to examine the 6 muscles that allow the eye to move inside the socket, the sclera casing, the cornea, lens, humor and retina.
We saw the lens and how this causes refraction of the light as it slows down the at boundary between two mediums of different density. We also looked at the rod and cone cells and the characteristic sign they leave behind when the eye is opened.
Event organiser Abby Fry said “What an incredible experience for our students at Saint George's School! The sessions were very impactful and full of real life stories and excellent tips to embed key terms into memory. We will absolutely be booking this again in the next academic year. Thank you Pre-Med Anatomy!”
